Just exactly who killed Jesus? We already know why He came; but who truly killed Him; was it religion, the Jews, the Romans under Pilate or Satan?
Jesus Himself said;
John 10:17-18 “17Therefore doth my Father love me, because I lay down my life, that I might take it again. 18No man taketh it from me, but I lay it down of myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This commandment have I received of my Father.”
So why was He killed and who killed Him?
Look at this;
1 Corinthians 2:7 “7But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, even the hidden wisdom, which God ordained before the world unto our glory: 8Which none of the princes of this world knew: for had they known it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.”
Who are the princes of this world? They have nothing to do with the devil but the Jews.
Here it is clear that this “world” refers to the Jewish state, and to the degree of the level of knowledge in that Jewish state: the rulers, the priests, rabbis, etc., who were principally concerned in the crucifixion of our Lord Jesus Christ are the ones referred to as the princes of this world.
You see, religion is so blinding to those immersed in it. They can’t see or comprehend the mind and workings of God. They can kill, thinking they are doing God a service. But you know what? It was God’s ultimate plan and desire for Him to be killed.
Look at it;
Acts 2:22-23 “22Ye men of Israel, hear these words; Jesus of Nazareth, a man approved of God among you by miracles and wonders and signs, which God did by him in the midst of you, as ye yourselves also know: 23Him, being delivered by the determinate counsel and foreknowledge of God, ye have taken, and by wicked hands have crucified and slain.”
The religious Jews did it, unknown to them that God permitted and orchestrated it all. The devil or anyone else had no power to kill Jesus. Not even His betrayal by Judas was of any significance, only as it relates to redemption; but even at that, he only simply played out scripts unknown to him.
And can I say the same to you here? That neither the devil nor any evil genius has the power over your life. He whom the Lord sets free is free indeed!
