Rev. 20:4, “I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them: and I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, ..And they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years 7 And when the thousand years are expired, Satan shall be loosed out of his prison.”
When Did Jesus Promise To Drink The Fruit Of The Vine (Last Super) Again With The Apostles, And How Does It Relate To Us?
Ans. Luke 22:17, “And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and said, Take this, and divide it among yourselves:
18 FOR I SAY UNTO YOU, I WILL NOT DRINK OF THE FRUIT OF THE VINE, UNTIL THE KINGDOM OF GOD SHALL COME. 19 And he took bread, and gave thanks, and brake it, and gave unto them, saying, This is my body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of me.
20 Likewise also the cup after supper, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood, which is shed for you.”
In Matt. 26:29 He calls it “In his father’s kingdom” which we are now and having appointed us a kingdom (Luke 22:29-30).
From the above passages, it’s often seen as if Jesus was promising the coming Millennium or when He supposedly comes back again then He will set up the kingdom in Jerusalem; and then He will drink the wine, last supper Passover with them.
But the truth is when He said,
“I will not drink of the fruit of the vine,” what He meant to say was, before the time of another Passover, the Holy Ghost shall have descended, and the Gospel of the kingdom be established, then the Lamb should have been slain which is our Passover.
1Cor. 5:7, “…For even Christ our Passover is sacrificed for us.”
This is because in a few hours as He spoke with them, His crucifixion was to take place.
“I will not drink henceforth of this fruit of the vine.”
Meaning we shall not have another opportunity of eating this bread and drinking this wine together in this natural state, for in a few hours my crucifixion shall take place.
“Until that day when I drink it new with you.”
That is, I shall no more drink of this natural product of the vine with you; but rather shall drink NEW WINE-the wine which is completely different in nature and substance from this one. And this must be the type that only the kingdom of God alone can afford.
So when you talk about NEW here it is the same way as it is applied in the scriptures.
Just like you have the NEW heaven, the NEW earth, the NEW Covenant, and the NEW Man, which simply means every one of these in a different nature and substances from the former one.
While it is said to be a thing of utmost joy to the soul while partaking of the sacrament, as wine is a symbol of joy, Jesus meant to say “the wine of the kingdom,” is far more powerful and much more precious than the natural celebration that cannot be compared to the spiritual enjoyments at the right hand of God.
He was simply saying the Lord’s supper was a type and a pledge to the genuine Christian of the joy to enjoy with Christ in His Kingdom of Glory. From what our Lord says here, we learn that the sacrament of his supper is a type and a pledge, to genuine Christians, of the felicity they shall enjoy with Christ in the kingdom of glory.
Remember He is at the right hand of the Father and we are seated together with Him right there which is a place of power and glory that surpasses anything of this natural world.
He is the vine and we are the branches as He said in John 15:5.
And the fruits of the vine cannot be the natural wine or wafer that has gone through fermentation. Remember He didn’t see corruption, (Acts.2:25-27). Meaning His blood didn’t not go through fermentation.
The fruits of the vine, which is the product of His union with the Church is the Holy Spirit, released from His Blood, for the life of the flesh is in the blood (Lev. 17:11). “For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life”(Blood-Holy Spirit),(Rom. 5:10, KJV).
Paul even have to admonish us on how to celebrate this NEW feast.,,
1Cor. 5:8, “Therefore let us keep the feast, not with old leaven, neither with the leaven of malice and wickedness; but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.”
So in Rev. 3: 20, we are told, “Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.”
Notice, He said, “I will come IN TO HIM” not “I will come in” as we have commonly quoted this passage. Why is He coming IN to this individual?
That He might share the communion, the sacrament, the last super, the Passover with him IN THE KINGDOM OF GOD which is within that individual. For the kingdom of God is within you, Luke 17:20-21.
Now we see what joy the 120 in the upper room had when they came down blasting in tongues and the people thought they were drunk with natural wine. But no, they just finished partaking of the Passover meal with Christ in His kingdom as promised disciples.
Beloved, God’s throne is already in existence in an ever existing kingdom of His and we are in the kingdom (the church) with the Son.
No literal kingdom in Israel again was promised.
Now you can share His glory as you share His life in the kingdom. He is alive now and forever. Don’t just have a Memorial-Remembrance of Him, but He wants you to share His life people. Praise God.
