There is this belief and opinions of men especially those who have embraced the truths of sonship, reconciliation, etc. message that there isn’t much to be gained in the written word of God. They depreciate the value of the written Word of God and pride themselves that they are now the living word. And so, with this they don’t give a hoot to reading or studying the word.
To them he who still carries the Bible is behind in the revelation of the spirit. Attending meetings such as Bible Study is of no use.
They even quote 1 John 2:27 “But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things” (KJV)
But if that is the case why was John writing the letters? For that itself is teaching. So, you see, what John meant here is that, when the Gnostics who says Christ cannot be God because man is matter and God is divine, comes to teach their doctrines to you. Let the Holy Spirit within you bring to your remembrance the things you have been taught before and so bear witness with your spirit that what they are saying isn’t true.
When Paul says “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” (2 Timothy 2:15), he wasn’t telling us to study ourselves when he gave the above instructions, but the Bible.
Is it not through the power of the scriptures that Nations are brought to the obedience of the faith of Christ? Look at this;
“Now to Him that is of power to establish you according to my gospel, and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery, which was kept secret since the world began, but now is made manifest, and by THE SCRIPTURES of THE PROPHETS, according to the commandment of the everlasting God, made known to all nations for the obedience of the faith” (Romans 16:25-26). Furthermore; Romans 1:16 “For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to everyone that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek”
Here is the confession of the two disciples on the road to Emmaus;
Luke 24, “27And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he (Jesus) expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself… 32And they said one to another, Did not our heart burn within us, while he talked with us by the way, and while he OPENED TO US THE SCRIPTURES?”
So here is the missing link. The scriptures have to be opened to us or else it remains a closed Book.
Therefore, Jesus would tell the Jews of his days,
“For had you believed Moses, you would have believed Me: for he wrote of Me. But if you believe not his writings, how shall you believe My words?” (John 5:46-47).
And Stephen said this to them too;
“This is that Moses, which said unto the children of Israel, A prophet (Jesus) shall the Lord your God raise up unto you of your brethren, like unto me; Him shall you hear” (Acts 7:37).
And unfortunately, this unbelief is still with the Jews till date that’s why they cannot still accept Jesus as the expected Messiah. It is the effect of not understanding or having the written word opened to them. See it;
Romans 11:25 “For I would not, brethren, that ye should be ignorant of this mystery, lest ye should be wise in your own conceits; that blindness in part is happened to Israel, until the fullness of the Gentiles be come in”
I believe God need us to walk as the living Epistles, but I also do believe in the power of the written word, for it is out of it that the revelation of becoming the living Epistle is made manifest.
‘Study’ your Bible to get approved of God and not men. The written word is alive!
