JESUS’ FATHER’S HOUSE DEFINED (John 14:2a)
Hebrews 3:5-6 “5And Moses verily was faithful in all his house, as a servant, for a testimony of those things which were to be spoken after; 6But CHRIST AS A SON OVER HIS OWN (Gods) HOUSE; whose house are we, if we hold fast the confidence and the rejoicing of the hope firm unto the end”
Where was the house of God that Moses served in as a servant?
Verse 3; simply the church in the wilderness. So here are dealing with a comparison of two houses of God and their ministers.
So,
“…Christ, God’s faithful son, is in complete charge of God’s HOUSE. And we CHRISTIANS are God’s house…” Hebrews 3:1-6 (TLB)
Did you see it?
Paul said;
“These things write I unto thee, hoping to come unto thee shortly: But if I tarry long, that thou mayest know how thou oughtest to behave thyself in the HOUSE OF GOD which is THE CHURCH of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth” (1 Timothy 3:14-15)
And we the saints are called the citizens of the HOUSEHOLD of faith being built as a Temple for the habitation of God through the Spirit. (Ephesians 2:19-21)
Therefore, when Jesus said “in my father’s house…” He was only referring to the Church, the family of God, birthed through His death, resurrection and the release of the Holy Spirit which took place on the day of Pentecost.
So, when He said, “let not you heart be troubled”, it is an assurance to the Apostles, of their partaking of the fellowship of His body – the Church, the house of God. So, they should not be afraid that He was going to leave them alone to be persecuted through His death on the cross.
Meaning, ‘The Father’s house’ is not a physical building but a people redeemed unto God. It is the family of God.
What then are the ‘MANSIONS’ in the father’s house?
Let the Bible speak;
1. In my father’s house are many mansions – KJV
2. In my father’s house are many rooms – RSV
3. In my father’s house there are many dwelling places (Homes) – AMP
4. In the house of my father, there are many abodes. Int. Linear Trans.
8. Evao uwou ose me Eria ire Buobu – Isoko Bible
So, we can see that, the word ‘MANSION’ does not mean a building of itself but, rather rooms or dwelling places within a house.
Therefore, the statement of Jesus does not indicate that, He was going up somewhere to build ‘mansions’ for people to stay when they die and go to heaven.
With what we know the father’s house to mean – the family of God: Jesus was only saying that in the family of God where He belongs, there are many dwelling places (we are those mansions, rooms individually) where God lives by the spirit.
Ephesians 2:21-22 “21In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord: 22In whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit”
The dwelling places, rooms are simply the individuals that make up the family of God.
The word MANSION in the Greek is MONE, and it means, a staying, i.e., residence (the act or the place) abode, mansion, dwelling place. It also means, to stay in a given place, state, relation, abide, continue, dwell.
Therefore, when Judas asked Jesus (John 14:23) “how is it, that thou will manifest thyself unto us, and not unto the world? (Verse 22)” “Jesus answered and said unto him, if a man love me, he will keep my words, and my father will love him, and we will come unto him, and MAKE OUR ABODE (mansion) WITH HIM”
“…We will come to him and make our HOME (abode, special dwelling place) with him” Amp.
“…we will come to that man and make our HOME WITHIN HIM” Phillips
”…We will come to them and LIVE IN THEM” NCV.
Therefore, Paul would say “…for ye are the TEMPLE OF THE LIVING GOD; as God hath said, I WILL DWELL IN THEM, and WALK IN THEM; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people”? 2 Corinthians 6:16_KJV.
Can’t you see, that the ‘mansion’, are the individual temples in the father’s house?
So, you see, you are ‘a mansion’, dwelling place, abode, home etc. where God dwells by the spirit (Ephesians 2:22) as you abide by the teachings of Christ. (2 John 9)
You don’t have to die to have a mansion; rather, you are to live to manifest what a mansion stands for. Since “… God’s HOME IS NOW WITH HIS PEOPLE, He will live with them, and they will be His own.” Yes! God will make His home among His people (Revelation 21:3 CEV).
Jesus in His earthly ministry stated it that, He was a House of God, when He went into the physical Temple with a cord in hand and drove away all that were buying and selling. When they demanded of Him to show them a sign. He simply said ‘destroy this Temple and in three days I will raise it up’ (John 2:13–22)” but in Verse 2, and “He spake of the TEMPLE of His BODY…”
Meaning, He was not talking of a literal Temple as the House of God, but His own Body. “For it has pleased (the father) that all the divine fullness – the sum total of divine perfection, powers and attributes – should dwell in Him (Jesus) permanently” Colossians 1:19_AMP.
For “…GOD WAS IN CHRIST reconciling the world unto Himself…” 2 Corinthians 5:19 KJV.
Even so, we are the temple of God today on the earth, with the same ministry of reconciliation. 2 Corinthians 5:19–20.
But precisely, this temple is the Church – the present glorified body of Christ “He… is the Head of (His) BODY, THE CHURCH…” Colossians 1:18 (AMP)
And “… we being many are one bread and one body; For as the body is one, and hath MANY MEMBERS, and all the members of that one body, being many are one body; so also, is Christ (i.e., Christ body, the Church)” I Corinthians 10:17, 12:22.
Now these “many members” that make up this body of Christ are the “Many Mansions”.
So then, Jesus wasn’t promising a building up in the sky for people to live in when they die or go to heaven. You are the mansion built by Christ on the day of Pentecost when the Holy Ghost came down for the habitation of God.
Be at peace with God and stop forming images of what Jesus never promised you through religious beliefs.
