“And I looked, and lo a Lamb stood on Mount Zion and with Him an hundred and forty and four thousand having His Father’s name written in their foreheads. 2 And I heard a voice from heaven, as the voice of many waters, and as the voice of a great thunder: and I heard the voice of harpers harping with their harps,” Rev. 14:1-5.

“GOD’S THRONE”

The Bible makes it clear that the universal God we serve does not sit on a literal throne or chair. The Word says, “But will God indeed dwell on the earth? Behold, the heaven and heavens cannot contain thee;…” (1Kgs. 8:27).

Furthermore, the sweet singer of Israel said, “…whither shall I go from thy spirit or whither shall I flee from thy presence? If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there; if I make my bed in hell, behold, thou art there; if I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the utter most parts of the sea, even there shall thy hand lead me and thy right hand shall hold me” (Ps. 139:7-10).

What can we understand by this? It simply means God cannot be located in a particular place because He is Spirit (John 4:24). Therefore, His authority is a universal one, making HIS THRONE a universal spiritual throne.

The Psalmist in further describing the universality, the majesty and power of the throne of God and His position as the supreme judge over all realms of creation, founded from time immemorial said,

“Justice and judgment are the habitation (establishment) of thy throne; mercy and truth shall go before thy face,” Ps. 89:14. See also Ps. 93:2; 97:2.

The Living Bible puts it this way, “Your throne is founded on two strong pillars – the one is Justice and the other Righteousness; mercy and truth walk before you as attendants.” It therefore follows that any true government in the Spirit of the Father, operating on these two pillars, is an extension of the throne of God on earth.

Otherwise, how could Solomon possibly have sat on the throne of God in Israel if God’s throne is just up there in heaven? For we read, “…Then Solomon sat on the throne of the Lord as king instead of David His Father, and prospered; and all Israel obeyed him,” 1Chron. 29:23. This same “throne of the Lord” was called the “throne of Israel” in 2Chron. 6:5, 10.

So we find that God extended His throne to earth in a typical and unique way then when He dealt with the Children of Israel as a nation. This is clearly the meaning of the scripture, “…thy kingdom come, thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven,” Matt. 5:10.

The will of God, which is God’s government, founded on justice and righteousness, is to be made manifest on earth through a people chosen and anointed by God to serve as His instruments of righteousness. So when we read of God having “…made us unto God Kings and priests; and we shall rule on the earth” (Rev. 5:10), it is a direct answer to the model prayer of Matt. 6:10, which was before the sacrifice of Jesus.

But here we are to have a people, the royal priesthood (1Pet. 2:9), combining the office of the priest and that of the king in executing the laws and righteousness of God on earth. And with this we find that God’s throne is being established on earth.

They combined the two fold office of kings and priests, because with their kingly office they execute the laws of God – Justice – and with their priestly office they bring forth the righteousness of God as they that offer the sacrifices that are acceptable unto God on behalf of the people. With this you find that they are also sitting on the throne of God-for-in administration their rod of authority is the two pillars of God’s throne- Justice and Righteousness, accompanied by mercy and truth.

This is why we read of Christ, the Pattern Son, “…seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens (plural) Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession (as Christians, having faith no matter the circumstances facing us). For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. LET US THEREFORE COME BOLDLY UNTO THE THRONE OF GRACE THAT WE MAY OBTAIN MERCY, and FIND GRACE TO HELP IN TIME OF NEED,” Heb. 4:15-16.

The throne of God is the same as the throne of mercy. When the woman whose child was stolen in the night by her fellow woman in the maternity ward approached Solomon for justice (1Kings. 3:16-28), the verdict of Solomon at the end of the day proved that Solomon was actually sitting on the throne of Grace, for the rightful woman did find grace in the time of her need-trials.

When the news got to Israel, we are told, “And all Israel heard of the judgment, which the king had judged; and they feared the king: for they saw that the wisdom of God was in him to do judgment (justice)” (v.28).

Before I proceed, let me ask this question. If the throne is up there in the far away heavens how can we approach the throne for help? Somebody says we do that by prayer. That is good, we thank God for that.

But hear the Word of God, “But the salvation that comes through faith says, “You don’t need to search the heavens to find Christ and bring Him down to help you” (meaning His throne is not up) and “You don’t need to go among the dead to bring Christ back to life again. For Salvation that comes from trusting Christ – which is what we preach is already within easy reach of each of us; in fact it is as near as our own hearts and mouths… For it is by believing in his (man’s) heart that a man becomes right with God; and with his mouth he tells others of his faith, confirming his salvation. For the scriptures tell us that one who believes in Christ will never be disappointed,” Rom. 11:6-11 TLB.

People of God can you get anything from this? The man that is sitting on the throne is within us (2Cor. 13:5). It is the Christ Spirit enthroned within, the power of the life of God that energizes and releases life in us to overcome our weaknesses and gives to us the abundant life we are ordained for.

To approach Him on the throne is a prepared heart void of offence, doubts and unbelief. For God on His throne is “…not far from every one of us (as we have been made to think by religious men). For IN HIM (God) we live, and move and have our being;” (Acts 17:27-28).

Now to be “in Him” is to be in the Spirit, because He is Spirit where HIS throne is. But you may say, but I am in the flesh, No! The Word of God says, “But ye (you) are NOT IN THE FLESH, BUT IN THE SPIRIT, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of His” (Rom. 8:9).

The question now before you is; do you have the Spirit of God? Then of course you are in the Spirit – in Him. The difference is, you do not know it and you do not believe in it; hence you can still be manifesting hatred, envy, gossiping spirits, etc., which are the works of the flesh (Gal. 5:19+) for that is your faith.

But if you truly come to know that the spirit you’re made of is the Christ Spirit, all of your old man will die, for you will stand to reject it.
