Luke 23:43, “…To-day with me thou shalt be in the Paradise,” YLT.

Luke 16:19-31.22, “And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗱 𝗯𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗹𝘀 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗼 𝗔𝗯𝗿𝗮𝗵𝗮𝗺❜𝘀 𝗯𝗼𝘀𝗼𝗺: 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗵 𝗺𝗮𝗻 𝗮𝗹𝘀𝗼 𝗱𝗶𝗲𝗱, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘄𝗮𝘀 𝗯𝘂𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗱.❞

The ❞5 𝘽𝙧𝙤𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙧𝙨.” Who are They?

We already know that this is a parable. In order to trace these five brothers, we have to track the sons of Abraham through Isaac and Jacob. Then you look into his children to find out who has five children.

The rich man is the son of Abraham through Isaac and Jacob, so going through the lists of the offspring of Abraham will reveal who had five brethren.

So let’s quickly find that out as we read in Gen. 35:22-26;

“Now the sons of Jacob were twelve…
”𝟮𝟯 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗵; 𝗥𝗲𝘂𝗯𝗲𝗻, 𝗝𝗮𝗰𝗼𝗯❜𝘀 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁𝗯𝗼𝗿𝗻, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗦𝗶𝗺𝗲𝗼𝗻, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗟𝗲𝘃𝗶, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗝𝘂𝗱𝗮𝗵, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗜𝘀𝘀𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗿, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗭𝗲𝗯𝘂𝗹𝘂𝗻.❞

So Judah ,that constitute the southern kingdom of the Jews had five brothers.

With this the Pharisees knew who they were and who Christ was referring to. It was the House of Judah, the southern kingdom. So the people Jesus was talking to were the House of Judah.

𝗗𝗢𝗚𝗦

Those outside the Kingdom were often referred to as dogs (Rev. 22:14-15), even the Jews/Pharisees (Phil. 3:1-3). The very ones that licked the sores of Lazarus-Jesus. Ps. 22:16,
❞𝙁𝙤𝙧 𝙙𝙤𝙜𝙨 𝙝𝙖𝙫𝙚 𝙘𝙤𝙢𝙥𝙖𝙨𝙨𝙚𝙙 𝙢𝙚: 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙖𝙨𝙨𝙚𝙢𝙗𝙡𝙮 𝙤𝙛 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙬𝙞𝙘𝙠𝙚𝙙 𝙝𝙖𝙨 𝙞𝙣𝙘𝙡𝙤𝙨𝙚𝙙 𝙢𝙚: 𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙮 𝙥𝙞𝙚𝙧𝙘𝙚𝙙 𝙢𝙮 𝙝𝙖𝙣𝙙𝙨 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙢𝙮 𝙛𝙚𝙚𝙩.❞

This is prophetic of Jesus on the cross. Did you see it?

Jesus used the name Lazarus to refer to Himself having just raised Lazarus from the grave, pointing to His resurrection after three days because the Jews/Pharisees derided Him (Luke 16:14-16).

So this parable was against the Jews; it wasn’t essentially a doctrinal issue, but more of the punishment of the Jews for their rejection of Christ.

See this;

Luke 16: 23, And 𝗶𝗻 𝗛𝗘𝗟𝗟 𝗵𝗲 𝗹𝗶𝗳𝘁 𝘂𝗽 𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗲𝘆𝗲𝘀, 𝗯𝗲𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.”

Is Abraham’s bosom the same thing as Paradise?

The Greek translation of 𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗹❞ 𝗶𝘀 𝗛𝗔𝗗𝗘𝗦, which comes from the Greek A(I)DES. The “a” is a prefix which is equivalent to our “un-” and the stem “-id” means perceive.

Thus we have UN-PERCEIVE or imperceptible; the unseen. That is Hades – 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘂𝗻𝘀𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱, 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘂𝗻𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄𝗻 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹𝗺.

And in the old days a young couple seeking to be alone sought a hell, a place where they could make love without being seen by prying eyes.
So they go to hell ..

There is nothing that connotes a literal fire burning here in the true sense.

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗵 𝗺𝗮𝗻 (𝗝𝗲𝘄𝘀-𝗵𝗼𝘂𝘀𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗝𝘂𝗱𝗮𝗵) 𝘄𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗹, 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘂𝗻𝘀𝗲𝗲𝗻, entering upon a new condition which he could not in a million years have anticipated, nor would he have sought or desired it. It is a land of shadows, of unrealities, of clouds and mists, of whispers and mystery.

The miserable ghettos of Europe, with their lives outside of Palestine are certainly vivid examples of the “hell” in which the rich man lifted up his eyes, being in torment! Fulfilling what Jesus said to the Jews;

Matt. 8:11, “And I say unto you, That many shall come from the east and west, and shall sit down with Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, in the kingdom of heaven.
12 But 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗿𝗲𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗱𝗼𝗺 𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗯𝗲 𝗰𝗮𝘀𝘁 𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗼 𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗱𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 (𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗶𝘀𝗵 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻) 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗯𝗲 𝘄𝗲𝗲𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗴𝗻𝗮𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗲𝗲𝘁𝗵.❞
