Ampl. Rom. 12:20, “But if your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him drink; for by so doing you will HEAP BURNING COALS UPON HIS HEAD. 21 Do not let yourself be overcome by evil, but overcome (master) evil with good.”
In looking at the spirit that ought to guide our walk and prayers, we found it in the life and ministry of Jesus. In the account of Luke when Jesus went to the Temple and was given the Book to read, He opened to the Book of Isaiah and…
“…He found the place where it was written, ..The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, 19 To preach the acceptable year of the Lord. 20 And he closed the book…” Luke 4:17-20.
But do you know what? He quoted from Isa. 61:1-2, but now He omitted the last part of verse 2, ”To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD, and THE DAY OF VENGEANCE of our God…”
So essentially then, vengeance was not and is not part of His ministry and Spirit. Can you see that?
Now you can understand why “…He turned, and REBUKED THEM, and said, Ye know not WHAT MANNER OF SPIRIT YE ARE OF” (Luke 9:55) when they demanded to call fire from heaven to consume His distractors.
So how is killing now your ministry as a disciple of Jesus? Just like He rebuked the sons of Zebedee, even so is He still rebuking everyone with the spirit of the sons of Zebedee, ‘The killing spirit.’
The Word rightly says;
“Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, VENEGEANCE IS MINE; I will repay, saith the Lord,” Rom. 12:19.
And how have we violated this scripture in all that we do and pray about? Haven’t we taken the place of God in our ministries?
A brother, Sheyi A. Peters, rightly said, “If you have power to kill enemies, you should be able to use that same power to make him or her to repent.” And of course if you can’t do that, then you are powerless no doubt; and it’s all a religious spirit.
That is the point, for the Jesus we are following is using His powers to save men and to give them life. For vengeance is not part of His calling, and it can’t be a part of yours either.
Look at what God said of Himself concerning you, “But if thou shalt indeed obey his voice, and do all that I speak; then I will be an enemy unto thine enemies, and an adversary unto thine adversaries,” Exo. 23:22.
“But if you are careful to obey him, following all my instructions, then I will be an enemy to your enemies, and I will oppose those who oppose you.”
Who is the “Him” to be obeyed here? The angel of His presence, which is Christ Jesus.
And like I have mentioned elsewhere, the Word says,
Psalm 23:5, “Thou preparest a table ( food) before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.”
Msg. Ps. 23:5, “You serve me a six-course dinner right in front of my enemies. You revive my drooping head; my cup brims with blessing.
Can you see what God Has in mind for you? Right in the presence of your enemies He wants to furnish for you “a six-course dinner.” Glory to God!
This will make your enemies know how powerful your God is; and seeing you prosper they will regret their actions and want to state, that of a truth your God is God indeed, not when they are dead please. Let them be alive to see the goodness of God in your life.
So “If your enemy is hungry, give him food! If he is thirsty, give him something to drink! This will make him feel ashamed of himself, and God will reward you,” Prov. 25:21-22 (TLB).
Come out of religion and embrace God and His love for humanity.
