Acts 1:1 “The former treatise have I made, O Theophilus, of all that Jesus began both to do and teach.”
Romans 15, “18For I will not dare to speak of any of those things which Christ hath not wrought by me, to make the Gentiles obedient, by word and deed, 19Through mighty SIGNS and WONDERS, by the power of the Spirit of God; so that from Jerusalem, and round about unto Illyricum, I have fully preached the gospel of Christ”.
The goal of Jesus’ ministry in performing miracles was to prove that He is the expected messiah. For instance when He healed the man possessed with a devil the cry of the people was;
Matthew 12, “22Then was brought unto him one possessed with a devil, blind, and dumb: and he healed him, insomuch that the blind and dumb both spake and saw 23And all the people were amazed, and said, Is not this the son of David?” (KJV)
And when John sent Messengers while in prison to know whether He was the expected Messiah or not, He simply performed some miracles and said to them;
Luke 7:20-22 “Go your way, and tell John what things ye have seen and heard; how that the blind see, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, to the poor the gospel is preached”
Meaning, I am the expected Messiah for this is what Isaiah described the messiah to be and that’s who I am.
In the words of Billy Graham and I quote “The main reasons for Jesus (miracles) was to demonstrate that God was with Him and that He was the promised Messiah.” Despite the fact that Billy Graham believed so much in miracles, yet his ministry was not associated with miracles and healings, just like John the Baptist was. It is said that about 3.2 million people responded to his alter call to have Jesus as their Lord and personal saviour. Having ministered to about 215 million people in his crusades around the world.
Why am I saying all these?
Firstly, because it is written;
1 Corinthians 12, “28So God has appointed some in the church [for His own use]: first apostles (special messengers); second prophets (inspired preachers and expounders); third teachers; then wonder-workers; then those with ability to heal the sick; helpers; administrators; [speakers in] different (unknown) tongues. 29Are all apostles (special messengers)? Are all prophets (inspired interpreters of the will and purposes of God)? Are all teachers? Do all have the power of performing miracles? 30Do all possess extraordinary powers of healing? Do all speak with tongues? Do all interpret?”
The answer to the above is NO. So we have those graced with the power of performing miracles and those who possess extraordinary powers of healing. Miracles and healings are two different things from the above.
So if you are not in one of these categories specified above, don’t struggle to be one neither must you feel disappointed in yourself and so go about seeking power to do miracles or healings. This is why we have so many fake miracles and healings that are not real and very temporary. Just be content with what God has given to you to do for Him and who you are in Him. Then you shall hear this;” thy faithful servant” at the end.
The second reason I am saying what I am saying is so that we may do ministry the way Jesus did it. For no man can receive anything except it is given to him from above. The main thing Jesus worked with was OBEDIENCE.
In His words;
John 5:19 “Then answered Jesus and said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he seeth the Father do: for what things soever he doeth, these also doeth the Son likewise”
Meaning He was guided by what the Father wants done. For instance, in John 5:2-9, at the pool of Bethesda. Jesus healed only one man and left, but there were other sick folks around there of course. But why you may ask? Because God was not ready to heal another person on that day. Besides, Jesus came to tell the Jews that the era of the Angels who gave the law to Moses and were responsible to stir the water of the pool for healing to take place is over. Now am the healer no longer pool’s water He meant to say.
Now if you were the one you will erect a signboard there of the “New healing ministry” in town and that everybody should be coming there for their healings. This is the problem we are dealing with today, that God will permit a simple healing for a purpose. We don’t try to figure out the purpose and stay on course, but will end up taking another name for ourselves and run off on a different tangent. And when further miracles don’t come we seek for power by all means.
Jesus did ministry following the way and will of God the Father. For the Father gives signs and wonders as he wills. Not your own will. (Romans 15:18-19)
