There is this teaching that goes on in many quarters that the mistake of Abraham the Father of faith is what has led to all the troubles we are having from the Muslim world since Ishmael is the father of the muslim community. So, issues like Boko Haram, ISIS and many other factions are the product of Abraham’s mistake of birthing Ishmael in the flesh.

But how true is this assertion?

So, this question came to me as to whether this is so or not.

Well I can only speak from the scriptures to affirm what my belief in this matter is and so will like to subject the topic to scriptural affirmation or otherwise.

So here is my answer;

Genesis 22:1-2 1And it came to pass after these things, that God did tempt Abraham, and said unto him, Abraham: and he said, Behold, here I am. 2And he said, Take now thy son, THINE ONLY SON ISAAC, whom thou lovest, and get thee into the land of Moriah; and offer him there for a burnt offering upon one of the mountains which I will tell thee of”

It’s not true therefore that the mistake of Abraham has resulted in what is going on around the world today by fathering Ishmael as some of us have been made to believe. The above passage tells us that God asked Abraham to take his son, He didn’t say choose out of the two children. Meaning God never acknowledged that Abraham had two sons.

So, who is the father of Ismael you may ask?

Truth is, the father of Ishmael was ABRAM and the father of Isaac is ABRAHAM.

We as the children of Abraham are therefore not of the same father with the Ishmaelites.

Their claims to having father Abraham to be their father is not true or correct.

So, for Christians to affirm this as their supposed conviction and be preaching to vilifying Abraham is an error that needs to be corrected. No matter how vigorous we must preach it to convict the believers to abstain from such mistakes in their choices is wrong. The motives may be right but the premise is wrong.

See, if Abraham had two sons, then God wouldn’t have had one, the only begotten son Jesus who is now multiplying Himself. For you see, Isaac was a type of Jesus.

In the next post we shall explain how this transition took place why he is not the father of Ishmael.
